Did anyone catch the Oprah Winfrey Show last night?

This show was soooo sad. There was a lady who was deep in debt after her husband died. He committed suicide and left her with thousands of dollars in credit card debt, a huge mortgage and no job.

I missed the first few minutes of the show. However, that was the gist of what I got.

Bottom line: Ladies there is no knight in shining armour who will take care of you forever. Even if you are a stay at home mom, make sure you are in th loop where finances are concerned. Know where all the financial documents are, know how much money is coming in and going out. This information is crucial.

Additional information on the show is available at Oprah.com.

I read a snippet on Oprah.com

man, scary sh!t

I have to say also participate in the household finances.

Not sure if the husband was just stressed out or what to commit suicide. But I think they had deeper issues, money just was the results.

Oh I missed it! This actually happened to a my mothers best friend. Her fiance didnt return home for a few days so she went to the garage and well... found him.
The finances were a mess and his exwife went full speed into trying to claim everything.
It really makes you stop and appreciate what you have and prepare for the future. Its so important to have all your paperwork up to date and your finances in order.

I read the story on Oprah's site. It was clearly an abusive relationship. I don't think he would have let her know the truth about the finances even if she tried. I mean, anyone that would stop paying the mortgage, stop paying the credit cards, proceed to cancel his life insurance, THEN kill himself is one. evil. bastard. I thought the show was important to let women know that find themselves in similar circumstances to sock money away immediately so they do have the option to leave. But when dealing with abuse, it's about so much more than just money. It was a really sad show, but yes, an eye-opener. Kinda makes me wonder why women would want to get married at all...

I watch it...It is sad especially that the children were sleeping with the mother to prevent her from being abuse. She tired to leave but it was hard with not having a job so she came back. That is one evil man to do that to his wife and children. They had to sell everything in an emergency estate sale. She got $13,000 and some of her family pledge to to help her. Did you download Suze Orman's book "Women and money" I caught the show right before the deadline ended. I love your blog!!

Thanks Jamillah....I downloaded the book. Just have to find time to read it.

I pray that I never find myself in a relationship with a person like that.

Wow, I did not catch this show, I hope they re-air it. Thats why I pay for everything I have in cash (clothes, shoes, furniture, etc.) I love to shop (need therapy for this) thats why I have no credit cards at all. Not even a gas card. I refund to finance petro even with gas at almost $3.50 a gallon!!
